Ha! I Think I Have a Title
I have a new story in the works (see early mumbling about characters), but I didn't have any clue of a title. I think I've now come up with the title of the story:

Standing On One Foot

It may change (my titles are almost never set in stone until the final draft), but I think this one has sticking power.

When I was a girl my mother taped the saying, "He who deliberates fully before taking a step will spend his entire life on one foot" to a cabinet in the kitchen. It was there for the entire time we lived in that house. Is that where you got it? Not from my wall I mean, ;-) but I think it was Confucius.

I hadn't heard that quote; I like it a lot!

My title comes from a story in the Talmud about the great rabbi Hillel (and his "arch rival," as it were, the rabbi Shammai). As the story goes,

A gentile once came to Shammai, and wanted to convert to Judaism. But he insisted on learning the whole Torah while standing on one foot. Shammai rejected him, so he went to Hillel, who taught him: "What you dislike, do not do to your friend. That is the basis of the Torah. The rest is commentary; go and learn!"

That is very interesting. It has the flavor of a zen koan. It's faceted like a disco ball, ;-) and now I have to go think about it. Yeesh, happy writing!

My WIP is called 'Physical Therapy', and I'll bet you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a book called that.
